Well rounded invasion force which concentrates on the border horse: The idea is that in field battle, the supremely agile border horse, with a little armour and weapon upgrading, becomes strong enough for short infights while retaining it's superior agility. They will first charge the enemy archers and crossbowmen, usually faster than these can pull off any shots. Afterwards they regroup, and use their speed advantage to constantly charge the enemy from any vulnerable direction, and to catch any enemy unit that tries to escape.
In the field, your pikemen will be able to hold their line against anything except professional swordsmen. In city attacks, this becomes valuable because they can block streets while the archers and the catapult fire over their heads. When switching to swords, they will also do very well against spearmen.
The highlanders, with their armour pircing axes, agility, superior aggressiveness and stamina, serve as perfect problem solvers both in the field and in cities: they swiftly massacre any spear or archer unit that managed to scale the walls, they're excellent in brawling through a breech, they can countercharge heavy cavalry that threatens to charge into your back, or they can down the swordsmen that threaten your pikes. Their aggressiveness is so high that they create local numerical superiority unless the enemy is in defensive order; they will take losses, but the enemy will take more.
The archers, while comparatively weak for any elite unit, still combine a sufficient punch with a good shot frequency, and of course the catapult's primary task is to open city gates.
