Svanian Hunters Svimra - meaning "guard"- are Svans, an endonym of the Mushvan ethnic group in Georgian. They live in the unapproachable mountains of west Georgia, making them wild soldiers who do not know fear. Although Christianity had long ago taken root among these mountaineers, ancient heathen customs are still very strong among the Svanians clans. They are skillful hunters and pathfinders, and since the earliest times they filled the ranks of the armies of Colchis, Lazika-Egrisi, and united Georgia. So fearful is their name, that in Georgia it's said if you go to war on Svaneti, hope on the grace of God. Because besides Him, no one will join to help you.
