Sudanese Longbowmen As the composite bow has been held in high regards by the Nomads for centuries, and remained forever useful, so too has the longbow been held in high regards by the Nubians, and remained forever useful. It would seem eternally the weapon of the Makurian's and their ancestors, becoming recognized in the centuries, if not Millennia, prior to Christ and Muhammad's arrival. But the past of this weapon, and even the present, are easily faded by the brilliance of its use centuries ago, in 652. Where Sassanian, Byzantine, Visigoth, Indian, Turk, and other peoples had been beaten by the Arabs in the first 100 years of Islamic Expansion, it was in Nubia where this trend was reversed.
