Alwa Horsemen As the longbow is to the Makurians, or the sword to the Ethiopians, the horse's reigns is forever to be found in the hands of any man of worth in the kingdom of Alwa. Though little known amongst the kingdoms of Africa, Alwa's presence has been felt in Egypt as much as Makuria's has. A kingdom remarked by Ibn Hawqal in the late 900s as being larger, wealthier, and more powerful than Makuria, it was this region of Nubia from where much of their cavalry was recruited, the middle and upper class of Alwa more than ready to assist their brethren in defending and attacking the Egyptians.
