Dismounted Seljuk Nobles Contrary to the behavior of Western Steppe Nomads, the tradition of dismounting to fight in a siege is not too foreign to those of the East, being a favored tactic of the Khitai and at least known and practiced from time to time amongst the Turks. Even so, it is not as strong a tradition as found within the Armenians, Arabs, or even the Crusaders, with those fighting on foot typically too poor to afford a horse and little more than the bare essentials. As a result, the nobles of the Seljuks who do dismount are only doing so because they must, with little experience behind fighting on foot. Even so, they are heavily armoured and equipped with a heavy mace that may not be able to pierce armor, but can and will harm those that fall under it regardless.
