Unit Description |
|
 |
The Bedouin have lived in Iraq since pre-Islamic times. They served the Lakhmid kingdom in the distant past, and after the Islamic conquest of Iraq more Bedouins settled in the Iraqi desert. Unlike other Arabs, the Bedouins preferred life in the desert to settled city dwelling. For the Abbasid armies, the caliphate needed low cost soldiers, especially after the loss of most of its rich provinces. These Bedouin spearmen fill this role and are happy to serve the caliphs wearing very light armor. Unorganized but very brave, they prefer to fight on the front.
