The Ansars were the founding warriors of Islam that were crucial in spreading the empire of the Caliph from Qurtuba to Hindia. They were originally a unit in the reign of ar-Rashidun Khuluf (the four righteous Caliphs) that never were dispersed, the same soldiers and their sons remained part of the regiment for many generations. The troops were known for wearing yellow turbans that distinguished them throughout their exploits. The Ansars were amazing on horseback, but mostly they fought on foot. In battle, they were equipped with spear, bow, javelins, sword, and axe, making them a formidable and inexhaustible source of shock troops. Now, after the splintering of the Umma, the Ansars have dissipated. Many have ended up in the service of the Imam, and have taken up sword to help him. Armed with their father’s armor, yellow turbaned helmet, and heavy mail they represent an older regime. Now, however, they have been fitted with the famed Kattara and heavy Indian shields, the best weapons available. Soon, perhaps, the Ansars will become another great power, this time under another banner.
