Foot Archery has been a weakness of the Kingdom of Jerusalem since the First Crusade, and has been something which could not be supplied adequately from Latin Europe. Thus, the need for something to match the abundance of archery in their foe's ranks was augmented by locals. In Antioch, it was primarily Armenian Christians, and Maronites of Lebanon saw limited service in the ranks of Jerusalem, but those who made up the most of the ranks of bowmen in Outremer were converted Turks, known as Turcopoles.
