Végvári Vitézek The Turkish wars left prominant marks on Hungarian warfare. The borders were prudently secured early on against the Sultan's raiders as well as larger scale military campaigns by a mutually supportive chain of border forts and citadels, garrisoned with Hussars and footsoldiers. Such enviroment gave life to a new class of soldier - the Végvári Vitéz, or Vitézek for plural. Literally standing for 'Border Fort Fighter(s)' in Hungarian, these men lived their everyday life in a never ending border war - often finding themselves besieged by a vastly superior force, winning fortifications from the enemy with cunning rather than brute force, ambushing raiding Turkish cavarly pillaging the countryside. Such enviroment was bound to produce excellent fighters, thought how to survive combat in the field rather then on the training grounds. Lightly equipped like their foes with saber, shield and light mail, having mastered of concealment and ambushes and life having thought them every trick possibly in melee combat, these men are the masters of the hit and fade.
