Unit Description |
|
 |
Ostmen (Men of the East) were Vikings who lost so much of their old Viking identity when settled in Ireland they became distinct from the foreign Norse and Danish viking raiders in the eyes of the Irish. They fought at Clontarf in 1014 on both sides. The Dublin Vikings wore mail with a helmet and armed themselves with axes and adopted the throwing javelins of the native Irish. They often rode horses to the battlefield, and sometimes fought from horseback too.
